Examples of 4 Automated Email Campaigns Every Online Retailer Should Send in 2017
ehavioural emails can generate millions in online sales yet most retailers struggle to get it right. Time and time again, digital marketers grapple with the existential question: How important is email marketing, really? Email tends to have an astronomically high ROI of 3800%; for every $1 spent on email marketing, retailers make an average of $38 and it's one of the best sales online retail sales channels. Itís no surprise that there are hundreds of email marketing software solutions that offer [...]

Trump order strips privacy rights from non-U.S. citizens, could nix EU-US data flows
An Executive Order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump in his first few days in office could jeopardize a six-month-old data transfer framework that enables EU citizens’ personal data to flow to the U.S. with the promise of ‘essentially equivalent’ privacy protection once it gets there. [...]

One-click unsubscription is now an RFC
In September I wrote about a proposal to allow one-click unsubscriptions from mailing lists without user interaction. After taking a rather tortuous path through the IETF, it's now been issued as RFC 8058. The changes since September are quite minor, mostly tightening up some details to prevent various attacks from fake unsub requests. Now that it's official, I expect email service providers will start implementing it, and we'll have an arguably better alternative to mail feedback loops to tell [...]

As with all comms from Beauty Bay, the relaxed, edgy tone of voice and creative design is enticing for the subscriber. The top email clients of 2016 - mobile growth starts to slow down
Mobile opens still on the rise, desktop slowly dying. When we did this analysis last year, desktop opens were on a steady decline but keeping well above webmail. 2016 saw the two continuously battling for the second spot. Unsurprisingly, mobile opens continued to increase throughout the year reaching the peak in December at 68 percent. However, growth has started to slow down, with opens increasing only 19 percent year-on-year compared to 30 percent [...]

The Drop Calc Method to Create Responsive HTML Emails
While I was researching the existing methods, I figured out a new way to create responsive HTML emails which works on almost all of the email clients. I call it The Drop Calc Method. There are only a few clients where this technique does not work correctly - which I write about in the drawbacks section -, so I decided to share it with the community. I hope email coders will find it useful. If you find any drawbacks or a way to improve it, please let me know in the comments block. [...]

Is a "View this email as a web page" link necessary in emails that display properly?
Similar to this question, I'm wondering if folks include a 'View in Browser' link in their emails. If an email renders well in all email clients and displays the content in its entirety, is there any benefit to adding a link to display it in a browser? If there is benefit, what are some good way to go about including it? [...]

How important are above the fold buttons?
I think it all really depends on the context. If the subject line is "Glastonbury tickets on sale now" the user knows the product, doesn't need convincing they will happily click straight to the website. If the subject is "New festival, tickets on sale now" you'll likely need to convince them they want to click through first. [...]

Are Interactive Emails Really the Next Big Thing?
All the email experts are heralding interactive email as the gamechanger for 2017, but are they all they’re cracked up to be? Do they help organization build momentum and create impact? A few of our favorites have been: A playable version of Minesweeper by the dynamic duo Table Tr Td, A Sonic the Hedgehog mini game by Two, The oldie but goodie, Litmus’ live Twitter feed. While undeniably cool, is interactive email really the future? Is this the dawn of a new era or just a passing fad? [...]
