That weird style issue in Outlook/Office365
When Outlook.com/Office365 find an A tag without the HREF or with an empty HREF or an HREF with the value “#” then it will get very upset and will remove the link tag. This is a known bug documented by the great “email hacker” Rémi Parmentier [...]

The 2017 State of Email Workflows Report [PDF] 2.1mb
Some of the key findings from the State of Email Workflows include: Email content planning continues to be relatively ad hoc. The number of emails in production and the time it takes brands to produce an email varies significantly based on the sophistication of the email marketing program. How machine learning in G Suite makes people more productive
One of the earliest machine learning use cases for G Suite was within Gmail. Historically, Gmail used a rule-based system, which meant our anti-spam team would create new rules to match individual spam patterns. Over a decade of using this process, we improved spam detection accuracy to 99%. Starting in 2014, our team augmented this rule-based system to generate rules using machine learning algorithms instead, taking spam detection one step further. Now, we use Tensor Flow and other machine learning [...]

Fixing a problem with “Unsubscribe” in Outlook.com
One of the problems that some of our users have been experiencing in Outlook.com is using the “You can unsubscribe” widget. The widget above shows up when we think the message is bulk, and the message contains a List-Unsubscribe header, and that header contains a mailto. We parse out the mailto and send a message to the address, unsubscribing you from the list. If the List-Unsubscribe header only has a http link, we do not show the widget. If it has both a mailto and a http link, we still only parse [...]

Building Email with CSS Grid
After week 1’s semantic HTML-only email, for week 2’s email we looked at using modern CSS to apply layout to our code. We’ve been looking at how we could move towards a multi-column, magazine-style layout for a while, and combined with a co-incidental update in iOS support, CSS Grid seemed like the perfect approach. [...]
