A few days ago, the European Statistical Office Eurostat has updated their figures on email and social network usage (see blog post from 2014). To my surprise, the proportion of email users continues to rise – despite the large base and the many competing communication channels.
In Germany for example, the steady upward trend remains unbroken. 84% of all individuals aged 16 to 74 sent or received emails in the past three months before the 2017 survey. The same applies to the EU average. Differences only become apparent in some cases when zooming in to country level. Turkey remains one of the few countries in which e-mail seems to play little role. In contrast to social networks.
